Resources, food, education and other services earn income from overseas. Businesses receive those sales. Wages, purchases, investment, taxes and distributions are some of the ways that income then moves through the country.
Goods and services, calendar 2025. All amounts are Australian dollars. The difference between exports and imports is a trade balance, not a government profit.
Selected leading categories. Education-related travel includes living and other expenses, not just tuition.
These are markets for all Australian exports. They do not identify the customers of every individual company or who owns those companies.
The rankings use the collected DFAT tables. Percentages use the total export value; unlisted products and markets make up the remainder.

Open original sourceA business sale is the beginning of a money trail. The country benefits through several different channels, and owners can be Australian or overseas.
The exporting business receives the payment. This does not go straight into a government account.
Production has costs. Businesses also invest, hold cash and meet tax or royalty obligations where applicable.
Dividends go to shareholders. Public receipts help fund public spending. The amounts need their own evidence.
Imports supply goods and services used by households and businesses. Their value measures purchases, not the likelihood that supply will fail.
Refined petroleum is one major import category. The separate diesel records show that South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore supplied 59.7% of recorded diesel imports in 2025–26.
That diesel figure uses a different period and measures volume rather than dollars. It shows supplier concentration, not a predicted shortage.
