Corrections
Make the record better.
A wrong number, stale officeholder, missing caveat or misleading explanation should be corrected. Readers do not need an account or a public confrontation to raise an issue.
Send a correction
Email contact@openaus.org with:
- the page address and the exact statement or figure;
- what you believe should change and why;
- the strongest available source, including its date and exact location; and
- whether you are directly affected by the material or are responding for an organisation.
Please do not send passwords, private identifying documents, confidential third-party material or allegations unsupported by evidence.
How reports are handled
We check the source, period, scope, calculation and surrounding explanation. A correction may change the page, add a qualification, replace a source, or record why the existing wording is retained. Material corrections should identify what changed and when; minor spelling and presentation fixes may be made without a separate notice.
Source publishers can also revise their own material. A later source edition is not automatically proof that an earlier dated account was wrong, but the page should make its evidence horizon clear.
Fairness and right of reply
A person or organisation materially affected by a factual statement may provide a response and supporting record. Responses are assessed using the same relevance and evidence standards; they are not accepted or rejected because they agree or disagree with the project’s conclusions.
Existing author-review corrections are recorded in the research correction log. That log is not an allegation that the original publishers were wrong.
A correction email is private correspondence, not a public submission. It will not be published with your contact details without permission or another lawful basis.
