About and publisher

An independent information project.

openaus.org helps readers explore Australia through dated, source-linked evidence. It is published under the Velvet Squid business name by an Australian sole trader, who editorially directs the project.

Not a government or representative body

openaus.org is not a government website, public authority, political party, charity, incorporated association or official national organisation. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government, agency, political party, business or other organisation mentioned on the site.

“Independent” describes who directs and publishes this work. It is not a claim of statutory status, community representation, external accreditation or independent audit.

What the project does

The site connects public information about Australia’s people, resources, businesses, public money, institutions and results. The company-style lens is an explanatory framework: Australia is a federation with public and private institutions, not a company with one owner or one set of accounts.

Figures keep their own dates, definitions and scope. Government revenue, company sales, investment stocks and service results answer different questions and are not combined into a single national score.

A read-only first release

Anyone can read the approved public material without creating an account. The public site does not accept, save or publish proposals or comments. Interactive comparisons change only what the reader sees in their browser unless a page says otherwise.

Public contribution would require a separate readiness decision, managed identity, abuse controls, moderation, privacy processes and tested retention rules.

Editorial responsibility

The operator publishing as Velvet Squid is responsible for selecting sources, writing explanations and correcting this publication. Links identify original publishers and allow readers to inspect the underlying material. A link does not imply that its publisher endorses openaus.org.

Read the correction process, privacy notice, security reporting policy and content and data notice.

Contact

General and editorial enquiries can be sent to contact@openaus.org. Please do not send confidential, sensitive or legally privileged material unless it has been requested through an agreed secure channel.

Information on this site is general explanatory material, not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. Check the dated original source and obtain appropriate advice before relying on it for an important decision.
